Immigration Services

Residence and Business Visa is issued to non-Sri Lankans to obtain residence facilities for special purposes or on the basis of carrying out an ethical business operation. This facility is available to those who have decided to extend residence facilities for the purpose of investment or otherwise, in circumstances where the governing authority is satisfied that their stay in Sri Lanka is not detrimental to the best interests of the general population.

The residence/business visa is usually valid for one year or Period recommended by the authorities. It can be renewed annually by submitting an application for the extension through the Department of Immigration and Emigration, provided your intended stay in Sri Lanka should end at least two months prior to the expiration of your travel document.

Extension of Business Visa Requirements

  • Completed business visa extension application form.
  • Passport of the applicant (original)
  • One colour passport size Photograph of applicant (size 3.5x 4.5 cm)
  • Visa request letter from the local business partner (sample letter available on request)
  • Business registration documents of the Sri Lankan company

Extension of Employment Visa Requirements

  • Completed employment visa application Form 'A' (IM 33)
  • Passport of the applicant (original)
  • Three passport size photographs
  • Visa extension request letter from the employer
  • Visa extension recommendation letter from the respective Line Ministry, the Board of
  • Investment Sri Lanka or the Central Bank of Sri Lanka where appropriate.

Extension of Residence Visa Requirements

  • Residence Visa form A.
  • Copy of the passport/new passport.
  • Renewal notice of fixed deposit certificate and bank statement of savings account.
  • Renewal notice of medical insurance policy.
  • Police clearance certificate obtain from Sri Lanka.
